Linton Walkers

Linton has an active walking group that meets every week, almost throughout the year:
On each Thursday morning at 11am there is a weekly walk, typically from a pub or village within five miles of Linton for between 3 and 4 miles. In addition, we have a full programme of evening walks, each Tuesday evening. Altogether there will be 75 of these weekly walks in 2013! More details are here. All are welcome - we have walkers coming from all over mid Kent.
On the first Sunday of every month throughout the year, we run a somewhat longer monthly walk of between 6-8 miles or so which starts at 10.30am and involves a half way stop at a suitable pub or village. for these we usually go a little further afield but they will typically be within a 30 minute drive of Linton. More details are here.
In addition to the weekly and monthly walks, we also organise the annual Linton Parish Boundary Walk. This takes place on Rogation Sunday, which in 2013 is on 5th May. Please support this walk - it is a longstanding Linton tradition which we are working hard to keep going. More details are here.
We also have a Summer Outing.. once a year we head off to somewhere exotic!
In July 2009 we arranged an outing to Beachy Head...
In September 2010 we had an outing to the Ashdown Forest...
In August 2011 we went to Dover & St Margaret's Bay... check out that helicopter!
In August 2012 we made a further visit to the Ashdown Forest, visiting Poohsticks Bridge and lots of other Winne-the-Pooh places.
In 2013 details have yet to be finalised but we probably will go back to the coast, on Sunday Sept. 1st.
Finally, we have an annual Walkers dinner in a local restaurant or pub.. 49 people attended the November 2012 dinner in the Mulberry Tree restaurant
All of our walks involve a donation of £1 per head, in aid of the Friends of Linton Church and similar Linton based worthy causes. In 2012 we raised £1,235 - all at £1 per walk - and were able to buy a new cooker, fridge and tea urn for Linton Village Hall, and also become guardians of a goat at Buttercups Goat Sanctuary, to follow on from our donation in 2011 of £1,000 towards the renovation of the Linton childrens' playground.

All the walks are organised and led by Terry Berry, Peter McGillivray and Jerry Whitmarsh. Click on their name, to contact them by email. They are happy to provide more details or answer questions on request.
The really wonderful thing about these walks is how many good things they do, all at once:
- they get us out of doors into the fresh air and contribute to a healthy lifestyle
- they show us how lucky we are to live in such a beautiful part of the world. The views across the Weald from Linton are famous!
- they show us the ins and outs of our local footpaths, fields and beauty spots - places you never knew were there, perhaps only a mile from your own home!
- there is a strong social element to the walks. Numbers vary from week to week, but we are a friendly group and there is always someone to talk to. We have an annual dinner to which more than fifty walkers came last year.
Why not give it a try? Contact Jerry, Peter or Terry, or just turn up to any walk.
