Linton Cream Teas Successful, Again!

Once again, the Linton Cream Teas weekend has been the higlight of the Linton calendar..

Every year, the Friends of Linton Church organise and run the famous Strawberry Cream Teas weekend. And every year, this well loved event (writes the chief organiser ) attracts record numbers of visitors and earns a tidy sum, for the Friends of Linton Church.. for once, a new record income was not achieved this year and the fact that England were playing (and losing) World Cup football on the Sunday might have had something to do with that.

This year, the Strawberry Cream teas raised a total after expenses of £752-36. There was an additional contribution of £111-01 from bird house raffle, and £97-48 in art sales commission. This makes a grand total for the weekend of £960-85. Given the competition from the World Cup, that is a wonderful result and is in fact our second highest ever.

The bird house - more of a mansion really, with six bedrooms! - was hand made by Charles Judd from reclaimed wood and beautifully finished. It was raffled and was won by John Watson, of Wheeler's Lane, Linton.

The organisers, Sue & Jerry Whitmarsh, expressed a heartfelt thank you to everyone who contributed to this remarkable success. There are far too many to list - though they would like to mention those who produced the 200+ scones that were sold, particularly Linda Perch and Roger Bettle. They also thanked Robert & Camilla Pascall of Clock House Farm, who have very kindly donated all of the considerable quantity of strawberries used at the event.
