Linton resident Carl Holt wins Safer Kent Award
Lintonite Carl Holt has been selected as the winner of the "Young Person of the Year" category of the 2010 Safer Kent Awards.
Carl, 16, who lives in Cornwallis Avenue, was appointed last year as Deputy Co-ordinator of the Linton NHW Scheme, with his mother Anne as Co-ordinator. Since then the Scheme has been revitalised, and he has written a regular newsletter which is delivered monthly to every Linton household. He also keeps an eye on the childrens playground above Cornwallis Avenue, and was instrumental in ensuring that the views of the users were fed back to the Parish Council when they were awarded a grant to develop and refurbish the facility.
His mother Anne Holt, the Linton NHW Co-ordinator, said "Carl is very hardworking and community minded.. it is wonderful that his efforts have been recognised in this way.." Carl said "It is nice to win an award but really I am just trying to help keep Linton safe and contribute something to the local community."
Parish Council vice Chairman Jerry Whitmarsh, who nominated Carl for the award, with the support of the Parish Council, said "It is so easy for young people these days to attract a negative image. I think it is great that Carl is willing to contribute some time and energy to helping Linton, and he entirely deserves the award he has received. Well done, Carl!"
Carl will be presented with his prize at an Awards Ceremony to be held at the Ashford International Hotel, on 3rd September 2010.
